ASSEMBLE FEST
Menu
Maureen Lennon and Charlie Sellers of Bellow Theatre tell us about their rehearsal process. --------- Since being selected for this year’s Assemble Fest, we’ve rolled up our sleeves and got stuck into our meaty new play about pies. As a company we’re all about telling captivating stories, and this new show is no exception. We’re taking Dickens’ short story Captain Murderer and reinventing it with an extra twist. The original tale looks at a gluttonous man who marries a different woman each year, and, as a dubious anniversary meal, kills them a year later and eats them in a pie. Our show is based around Pie², the tastiest place on Newland Avenue, and features two fictitious sisters who run the shop and bake the goods. As Rosemary and Parsley welcome the audience into the Rosebery Garden, they’ll be hard at work on a brand new pie of enormous proportions, and, amid the flour and pastry and rolling pins, they’ll be telling a story that’ll turn your stomachs! The Cautionary Tale of Horrid Ham Carver will combine baking, storytelling and live music to transport the audience into a strange new world, and we’re already having a blast creating it. We’ve had our first few rehearsals, joined by our fantastic musician Ellie Gaynard to add some extra flavour. We can’t wait to share the story with you at this year’s festival. Until then - Bon Appetit! Bellow x Images: Sarah Holich
