On Saturday I took a trip to the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds to attend Money Talk. It was a panel discussion focusing on how theatre companies raise and spend funds, hosted by Abbi Greenland and Helen Goalen of RashDash alongside Charlotte Mountford of Forward Theatre Project, Alan Lane of Slung Low, and Arts Council representative Ralph Dartford. Amy Letman, Associate Producer at WYP, chaired the event, which was attended by about thirty ambassadors from theatre companies and festivals spanning the region.
Timing can be a funny thing: Money Talk took place mere days after Assemble Fest received confirmation that it would again be funded by Arts Council England, Hull City Council and Community First, securing the festival's second instalment in May 2015. Still, the event proved interesting and was an excellent opportunity to meet likeminded people, not to mention enjoy a slice of too-good-to-politely-decline cake.
When asked to give a bite-sized piece of advice on the subject, each panel member provided something unique and valuable for anyone looking to secure funding and support.
Speaking personally and on behalf of my fellow Assemble Fest organisers, I'd like to thank everyone listed above and congratulate them on an excellent event at a very welcoming venue.
