Hello! I'm Jose Tevar, born in Spain, bred in Hull. I graduated from The University of Hull last year studying Theatre Practice, specialising in stage management and technical theatre.
Since graduating I have been lucky to work with some fantastic Hull-based theatre companies, such as Middle Child and Silent Uproar. I have had the pleasure of working on shows written by Hull-born playwrights such as Dave Windass, Laura Turner and Morgan Sproxton.
My passion for theatre and performance began when my parents started taking me to watch shows at Hull New Theatre and Hull Truck. I decided I wanted to be an actor, which led me to join the Hull Truck Youth Theatre, where I performed in shows such as Our Day Out, Marat/Sade and Quadrophenia. I also wrote a script that was selected to be part of a Hull Young Writers Festival called 10:18 from Hull, which was performed at Hull Truck.
My passion for technical theatre emerged during my time at university, where the opportunities to get involved in all aspects of theatre (lights, sound, dramaturgy, projections, costume, set design) were offered to me. The hustle and bustle of backstage life joined by the creative design roles such as lighting designer appealed to me more than the fear of corpsing every night. I am currently working on Silent Uproar's upcoming production of Don Jon as the Stage Manager, check out their website for information.
I am VERY excited for this year's Assemble Fest and I have the pleasure of being the Event Stage Manager, which effectively means I will be going around fixing things to make sure the festival runs smoothly. I hope to see you all on the avenue on the 3rd May, it really is something not to miss for all those in the city (and beyond!)
